How long have you climbed for?
Bouldering for around 5 years.
What is your favourite thing about climbing?
The range of movements and styles! Pushing your grades always requires a balancing of strength, technique and focus to adapt to these. I find this addicting!
What do you like most about coaching?
Coaching is something I have always found extremely satisfying, no matter the sport. Bouncing psych off people as they learn new things and get motivated is really inspiring. I also find it fascinating to study different peoples movements on the wall to improve my own climbing.
What is your best brag/show-off/proudest about climbing?
I am quite proud of how much outdoor climbing I have done despite being a city boy and an ‘indoor boulderer’, especially working in the adventure team for NoBoundaries. I’ve found it improves confidence and footwork massively!
Also, despite toning it down in the last year to focus on becoming a more well rounded climber, I have a deep seated obsession with campusing and will show off with very little encouragement... warning given.
Best moment of your climbing career?
So many different great moments. First time climbing in Fontainebleau was inspiring, getting shut down in Sharma’s gym was humbling and competing with my uni is hugely motivating every time!
Why do you like coaching with Catalyst?
Catalyst has a really friendly, positive coaching vibe which I think is really healthy! I also like to focus solely on bouldering.
What is your favourite Catalyst exercise?
I am a fan of the hovering over holds and no readjusting exercises. I worked them with Louis a few years before catalyst started up and found they improved my accuracy and body tension vastly. I train these the most when trying to push my grade.
